Consistency rules compared

The rule that gates payouts rather than passes, and the one most often described wrongly. Each firm's published figure, and the stage it bites at.

What a consistency rule actually does

Every figure on this page was read from the firm's own site on . A consistency rule caps how much of your total profit any one day may represent. At 50%, a $3,000 profit balance built on a single $2,000 day breaks the rule, because that day is 67% of the total.

The critical detail, and the one most often got wrong: at most firms a consistency rule does not stop you passing. It stops you withdrawing. You can clear the profit target and then find the payout gated until you have traded enough additional days to dilute your best one.

It also matters which stage it applies to. Apex states plainly that consistency is not applied during the evaluation and applies in the funded account. Topstep and Earn2Trade apply one during the evaluation itself, where it changes how you have to trade to pass at all.

Who this rule costs money

A consistency rule is close to invisible if your results are evenly distributed and expensive if they are not. Strategies whose profit arrives in a few large days, which includes most news and breakout trading, run into it routinely while a scalper trading the same account never notices it exists.

The arithmetic is worth doing before you buy. Under a 30% rule, reaching a $3,000 target means no single day may exceed $900, which in practice means at least four profitable days and usually more. Under a 55% rule the same target needs two. That difference is a different product, not a detail.
